Pocket Chef
Apple Watch Design Prototype
Introduction
For my Advanced Interaction Design course, we were assigned to create an application for the Apple Watch. This was my first experience designing for a wearable device. My degree program wants us to be as versatile designers as possible, so designing for as many platforms as possible is important.
My app prototype is Pocket Chef, an Apple Watch application that walks users step by step through a selected recipe to allow for hands free cooking. I thought this idea would nicely utilize a wearable device. From my experience, physical recipes can get lost or dirty during the process, and I have to flip back and forth out of the recipe if it is pulled up on a mobile device.
Development
My goals for developing this prototype were to keep the design as concise as possible. Apple Watches are difficult to design for as there is very limited screen space. Therefore, I had to iterate many times on my text and graphic sizing. Because the app was fairly simple in design, I jumped straight into digital mockups and edited them after critique periods from my professor and peers.
Results
The app was successful by the end of the class. After multiple rounds of changes, I was able to earn an A for the project and receive positive feedback following my presentation.
