Brown Animal Hospital
Website Redesign
Introduction
For my senior capstone class, we were assigned to find an independent project and complete it before the end of the semester. Through personal connections, I knew that a local veterinary clinic, Brown Animal Hospital, needed a redesign for their website. The original website was created by one of the owners, who had no web design experience, and she gave me a few select parameters, in hopes that my experience and knowledge would produce an exceptional end product.
Development
To begin the project, I created a schedule to follow. This schedule was made with milestone deadlines outlined by my professor. Each milestone had a specific amount of deliverables.
Milestone One focused on research and preliminary information from the client. I sent her a pre-survey to figure out what she wanted to change from the current website, and what she hoped for in the redesign. After her responses, I benchmarked other veterinary websites to find what the client was visually drawn to, and what features I felt would fit in the context of Brown Animal Hospital. Using the client responses and research, I made a sitemap and sent it off to be approved.
Milestone Two was focused on building the home page. In order to get the look and feel for the rest of the pages, I felt it would be fitting to solidify this design, and work off of it for the internal pages. I ended this milestone with a rough draft of where information would go, and generally how it would look.
Milestone Three was the most intense, as I planned on designing the internal pages, resulting in a rough draft of the entire site for the client and my professor to review. Many hours were spent making the pages consistent and cohesive. After I was happy with the pages, I made sure each of them was mobile responsive.
Results
The project was a great success in the eyes of the client. They said it "looks amazing" and they "love it all." The original website was functional, but this new website more clearly shows the heart and passion behind the business. It will be a valuable asset for new and returning clients.
